VISITING FRIENDS AND EATING WAY TOO MUCH!

On Sunday, September 20th, our friend Davy and his daughter Amanda came over to wash and wax our RV.

We have known Davy for about 15 years. He works at the neighborhood RV dealer where we bought our RV when we lived in Frederick, MD. He washes and waxes all the RV's at the dealership.

It is quite a job and undertaking and we hire Davy to wax it when we come to Maryland. When we are on the road we have tackled this job ourselves, but if  we can find someone to do it, we gladly hire them.

It took Davy and Amanda several hours and they did a fine job.

On Monday, September 21st, I left early in the morning and headed to Montgomery County, MD. This was the county I grew up in and also worked in. Our farm was in Frederick, Co. just north of Montgomery County.

I stopped to visit an old flame of mine named John. I dated John for 6 years prior to meeting Ralph. We have kept in touch and when I come back to Maryland, I usually go by to see him and his mom who has recently passed away. They are Greek and I sure did love her Greek cooking. I use to tell John that is why I dated him. We had a nice visit over coffee and cake.

I headed to the Metro stop near my sisters home in Rockville to pick Florence up. She worked a half a day. We had lunch date with a wonderful couple that we have known since we were little kids.

Our neighborhood in Randolph Hills was very close and friendly. Mr. and Mrs. Ward have known our family since 1961 and I was just 6 years old at the time and my sister was a newborn.

They now live in Pennsylvania and they drove to the town of Olney to meet us for lunch at Panera Bread.

We spent a couple of hours just chatting away. We talked about the beautiful memories we had from our Randolph Hills neighborhood. Back then all the grown ups would constantly get together and throw parties and have cookouts. Oh what fond childhood memories we had growing up.

After enjoying our afternoon with the Wards, we stopped and visited Mrs. Romanick. Her husband and our dad were Washington D.C. policeman together. They have known me since I was 4 years old and they were a big part of our lives.

Mrs. Romanick got several of her albums out and we reminisced over the photographs of all the fun my folks had with Mr. and Mrs. Romanick.

We enjoyed our chit chat over coffee, cheesecake and cookies.

On Tuesday, September 22nd, Ralph and I headed to Boonsboro, Maryland where we met our friend John. He is our money manager as well as our friend. My sister Florence works in the financial world and she and John go way back.

He is an absolute doll and always keeps in touch with us on a regular basis. As I say, he has always given us his "2 cents" worth when it comes to his expertise in the Stock Market.

I send him post cards as we travel and he enjoys keeping up with our travels by following our travel blog.

Today John was treating us out to lunch at Dan's Restaurant and Tap House. The restaurant is located in the historic town of Boonsboro, MD.

The town was founded in 1792 and the population is about 3,400. It is nestled in the valley of South Mountain. It was founded by George Boone, a cousin of Daniel Boone.

Boonsboro was a key town during the American Civil  War. Antietam Battlefield is nearby as well as the Appalachian Trail. The Battle of Antietam occurred on Sept 17th, 1862 and it was the bloodiest one-day battle of the American Civil War with 23,000 casualties.

Dan's Restaurant and Tap House is owned by Dan, the son of  the New York Times Bestselling author Nora Roberts. The restaurant sits in a 19th century brick building on Boonsboro's historic town square.

The restaurant was quaint and cozy and the ceiling was breathtaking. It was made of pressed decorative  tin tiles. The menu ranged from Pub Fare, to steaks, seafood, exotic dishes, chicken and burgers.

We had a wonderful lunch. We started off with a lump meat crab dip on homemade pita chips and for lunch, Ralph and I had a rib eye steak and cheese with sweet potato fries and John had a veggie burger and side.

Here is "The Inn at  Boonsboro, On The Square". It is owned  by best selling romance novelist Nora Roberts. The Inn is a 1790's-era, eight room boutique hotel  meant to cater to women's romantic sides. Each suite is named for famous literary couples and has its own signature scent.

A beautiful log structure in town.

This is "Turn The Page Bookstore" owned by Nora Roberts.

Nora Roberts has written more than 209 romance novels. She has been on The New York Times Best Seller list a combined 861 weeks.

Could Ralph be talking romance with her? Check out the photo of her on the back cover of the book. They used it for the life size cut out.

We walked around town a bit more and rounded a corner and oh, oh, an ice  cream parlor!  John and I got sundaes. I got an Almond Joy Sundae. I love coconut!

The Vesta Pizzeria is owned by Nora Roberts husband and it had some art work on it. Although it is hard to see, at one window is a girl waving with a dog is next to her. At the other window it looks like a chef spinning pizza dough in the air.

A little kitty sleeping on the stoop.

A beautiful church driving out of Boonsboro.

On the way home we stopped to visit our friends Cindy and Ross. Cindy and I rode many years together and I have the most wonderful fond memories of our riding adventures with her and her daughter Ki.

Cindy and her family are big animal lovers and have taken in numerous cats and dogs on their farm. Joey just fell in love with Ralph.

Another fun day in our life! Until next time............Happy Trails!

  1. What a wonderful visit it must have been to reminisce with those people who were a big part of your life. The fact an old boyfriend was still a friend made the visit interesting as I read this story. Being able to go back and see people who meant a great deal to talk and bond with is a blessing. Thanks for taking us along.
