BIKE RIDES, A PICNIC, A COWBOY SHOOT, FUN AND GAMES!

On Friday, July 31st, we packed a lunch, got on our bikes and headed to Kirchhoff's for coffee, but sadly no sweet this time. We were just going to investigate the town while doing a few errands and hopefully find a nice place to eat our picnic lunch.

On the way out of the park, I just caught this motor home double towing a motor cycle trailer and towing their car. Wow!

After coffee at Kirchhoff's, I looked up a post office on my iPhone and found one that was several miles away. We were long past the one post office in town and I thought peddling to this one would give us extra miles to ride since it was out of town, so off we went.

On the way back to Paducah,we came upon Noble Park and this was a perfect place to have our picnic. Near the entrance of Nobel Park was this wonderful piece of art.

Noble Park is Paducah's premier park and it is 135 acres. They have a 5-1/2 acre lake with  fishing piers and a beautiful fountain. It has playgrounds, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a skate park, ball fields, an Olympic size pool, nature trails and amphitheater. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept.

There are numerous picnic shelters throughout the park and we picked one to enjoy our nice picnic.

By the time we got home, we had done 21 miles! It was a fun day.

On Saturday, August 1st we headed to the town of Boaz, KY. just about 15 miles from the RV park. Ralph had a shoot at the Kentucky  Regulators Club. It was on private property and down in a shady "holler".

Here were the facilities at this shoot. I found out later that very few of the female cowboy shooters will attend this match because of these outhouses. I didn't see what the big deal was, but maybe it is just me. I thought they were pretty neat myself.

There is something said for outhouses. They save water and you never have to call a plumber. It is one of life's more simpler things.

Here the cowboys are attending the shooters meeting.

It was a small group of competitors.

Lefty Rhodes (Ralph) shooting his rifle.

Lefty Rhodes taking aim with his shotgun.

and shooting both his six shooters at the same time.

The scores of today's match will be posted on the clubs website. As of yet, they are not up.

On Sunday, August 2nd we got on our bikes early. We were going to have breakfast at Kirchhoff's. When we rode up, there was a sign that said "Closed", but there was a note on their door sending us to a nice coffee shop just a few blocks away, so we peddled to Etcetera Coffeehouse.

The Etcetera Coffeehouse with umbrella tables and deck out front.

They are a neighborhood coffeehouse and was opened by a group of high school teachers in 2006. It was a cute place with indoor and two outdoor seating areas.

We got a delicious cup of coffee and split a huge gourmet toasted asiago cheese bagel with cream cheese. Oh my gosh was it delish and so cheesy!

The tables out front were full, so we headed to the garden patio out back. I was delighted to find a quaint and cozy patio with shade trees, flowers and a patio trellis covered in ivy. The icing on the cake was the sound of water running from a little fountain. That is one of my most favorite sounds in the world.

We soon started chatting with two nice middle aged fellows, Kevin and John. Kevin is a local and his friend John was visiting from Wisconsin. Kevin is a bicycle rider and gave us information on surrounding bike routes around the area along with several sights to see. We sure did have a enjoy our chat with them.

Beautiful buildings in downtown Paducah.

Can you imagine buying 37,000 acres in 1827 for $5!

I thought this was adorable. It was part of an old Texaco gas station that now is an information center.

On the way home, we stopped at Walmart and Lowes. We loaded up our bicycle baskets with groceries and headed home.

When I was at Walmart, I picked up my usual large Folgers can of coffee. I noticed right away that the can was a bit smaller. So when I got home, I compared the new can  to the old. Sure enough the new can was 30.5 ounces and the old can was 33.9 ounces. So rather than raise the price, they have kept it the same not thinking consumers would notice!

After a nice shower, I headed to the pool for some R & R. It very nice and relaxing. There are tables, chairs and ceiling fans underneath the large gazebos.

On Tuesday, August 4th, there was no bike riding or walking today. Our thermometer said 100 degrees at one point, but by the time I got my camera, it went down to 99. Even though it shows 86 degrees in our RV, it was comfy. Our temperature gauge is on a wall that has the afternoon sun, so that may be why it is showing such a high number.

On Wednesday, August 5th we woke up to dark skies with the sound of thunder and lightning. So we just relaxed in our cozy ranch house and enjoyed listening to the rain. Rainy days have always been my most favorite days. I love the cozy rain and all we do is nothing!

This is a little ceramic sign that we have hanging up in our RV. A little kitty cat is laying down and  the saying says "How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards". It sure does fit us today!

So we played many games of dominoes and cards. It was a fun day!

Until next time...........Happy Trails to you!
